Oden-kun and his pals are all types of oden - or Japanese stewed ingredients such as eggs, fish paste, burdock, white radish, devils tongue and so forth. Oden-kun himself is a loincloth-clad, headband-wearing piece of mochi kinchaku, - rice cake stuffed in fried tofu pouch!
Oden-kun was dreamed up by Lilly Franky, originally for a picture book. Then, April 2005, Oden-kun was televised by NHK and became just the latest in a long line of animation national superheroes.

Oden-mura is a little village at the bottom of the stew pot inside a street vendor's stall. Zenmai Zamurai
The main character of this 2007 NHK t.v. animation series by Tetsuo Yasumi is a "clockwork samurai" who has been sent to "Karakuri Oedo", an imaginary "Great Edo" someplace in the future, where he must do good works to make up for his past life as a warrior thief.
Zenmai Zamurai goes around with a clockwork key in the top of his head which was put there by Daifuku no Kami, the God of Great Good Fortune, to keep track of the oriental knight errant's good deeds.
