Shogi is a Japanese board game played by two players. The object of the game of Shogi is to capture the opponent's King. Shogi is similar to chess, but with some key differences:
- Most pieces can be promoted once they reach the opposite side of the board.
- Instead of making a move a player can place a captured piece on the board and use it against his opponent.
- The board consists of a 9x9 grid of squares.
- Each player starts with 20 pieces.
- The pieces are all the same color because a player can use captured pieces against his opponent.
- There is no castling.
